Can FSU Football 2019 commits convince other stars at The Opening?
By Jason Parker
FSU football will have some of their top recruiting commits taking part in the major event starting this weekend in Texas, with a chance to get some more.
In the suburbs of Dallas, Texas for the next four days, some of the top high school football players in the country will take part in The Opening 2018 – an annual event moved from Oregon to the training area of the Dallas Cowboys featuring a “who’s who” of premium talent for the 2019 class – including four players who have verbally committed to FSU football.
Sitting just behind Oklahoma, Alabama and LSU in the total number of verbal commits taking part in the event, the Seminoles will see some of the biggest names in their #Tribe19 class on display – including five star cornerback Akeem Dent from West Palm Beach and four star quarterback Sam Howell from North Carolina, fresh off his Elite 11 performance last week.
But, could the Noles leave Texas with several more players deciding to give verbals to play in Tallahassee?
You can be willing to bet that Dent and Howell, along with defensive end Quashon Fuller from just outside Fort Myers and cornerback Renardo Green from Apopka, are going to be pushing hard to get more people thinking FSU football. According to 247Sports, they might be helped by how the recruits have been broken up into teams.
"With 12 commitments…the Seminoles are only one of six teams with an average commitment rank of over 92. All four of the Seminole commits will compete on Team Elite. As it happens, several other Florida State targets are also competing on that team."
The biggest names that FSU football are targeting on that team include four star wide receiver John Dunmore from near Fort Lauderdale – a former UF commit now leaning heavily to the Noles according to the site – along with four star safety Brendan Gant from Lakeland (another projected Seminoles pick).
Several other national names will be there, including five star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux from California who announced Friday that FSU football was one of the final five schools he is considering.

While FSU football is going to have to put in work on some of the players left on the wish list of head coach Willie Taggart and his staff, the nucleus of #Tribe19 is doing really well and it wouldn’t be an insane thought that several more studs join the group by the middle of this coming week.
