FSU football could be in better shape of a reported suspension for the Hokies’ top signal caller is indeed out for the opener against the Seminoles.

There is very little doubt entering the 2018 season that the FSU football team has one of the toughest openers to the season of any Power Five team in the country – as the Seminoles will be welcoming a Virginia Tech Hokies team to Tallahassee on Labor Day for a battle of teams in contention of the ACC title this season.

There are some who already think the Hokies can come in a pull off the upset, while others think the Noles will make the debut of Willie Taggart as head coach a happy one with a victory. While the Hokies are known for their defense in the past, they also have a decent quarterback in Josh Jackson who put up some good numbers in his freshman season.

Of course, that is assuming that Jackson is going to see the field during that opening game.

A report this week said that Jackson could be suspended over a possible academic issue – which is he can’t get revolved over the summer would mean that FSU football would catch quite a break in not having to see him for the opener.

IF that takes place – and there still are plenty of things that need to take place before we know for certain what’s going on – the Hokies are in a  whole lot of trouble at the quarterback position…something the Seminoles would be licking their chops at.

The three other quarterbacks on the roster – redshirt freshman Hendon Hooker, redshirt sophomore Chase Mummau and redshirt junior Ryan Willis – have thrown a combined ONE PASS for the Hokies in their careers and that was when Mummau threw a pass on a fake punt during the Camping World Bowl against Oklahoma State.

Now, Willis did throw college passes before – where he threw for over 2,500 yards in 10 starts over two seasons with, wait for it, the Kansas Jayhawks. Yes, that’s right. The likely starter if Jackson is out would be someone who came from arguably the worst team in the FBS.

Next: ACC games that should never be played after mid-October

Now, we in the FSU football camp can’t get ahead of ourselves on this one as we still have months for everything to play out – but if No. 17 is not in a white uniform for the Hokies come September 3rd, things will be looking up for the Seminoles.
