FSU Softball: Fans react to Noles winning first National Championship
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball swept the Washington Huskies to win its first National Championship Tuesday night.
FSU softball started its second game of the WCWS full of nerves and dug themselves into a 3-0 after half of an inning.
The Washington Huskies came out swinging against Meghan King and some ‘Noles miscues didn’t help their cause.
However, the ladies responded in the bottom half of the frame behind Anna Shelnutt’s second homerun in as many games.
FSU ace pitcher Meghan King would stifle the Huskies’ bats the rest of the way as the Noles poured it on with an offensive onslaught similar to what got them to the WCWS.
Jessie Warren continued her torrid pace, going 3-4 with deep homerun in her third at bat.
Elizabeth Mason crushed a three-run bomb to put the Noles up 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
FSU softball hit nine homeruns during the WCWS which tied them for third most all-time. Almost all of the offensive damage was done against Washington ace pitcher Taran Avelo as she gave up seven runs on seven hits.
Megan King saw her scoreless streak of earned runs allowed snapped, but only allowed five hits while striking out five for the complete game 8-3 win.

It’s always great when a program can finally break through and win that first National Championship. The Noles were among the teams that had been to the WCWS the most without winning it all.
It was also the first softball National Championship for the ACC Conference. It’s even crazier to think FSU softball won a National Title before FSU baseball could with Mike Martin.
The win also helped FSU fans get over those two devastating losses FSU baseball suffered as a No. 1 seed to be eliminated in regional play.
