FSU baseball saw several players selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.

The 2018 FSU baseball season didn’t have the finish everyone was hoping for(how many times have we said that).

However, it wasn’t for a lack of talent as several Noles saw their names called in the 2018 MLB Draft.

It’s not unusual for a Mike Martin team to fall short of winning it all while having several players selected in the draft.

The Noles had nine players selected in 2017 which was the most since 1995. They have had five players selected in the first 10 rounds of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Thoughts

All of the players selected thus far except Andrew Karp have been juniors who have the option to return to FSU baseball for their senior season.

I can’t see any reason for Cal Raleigh to return for his senior season after leading the team in several offensive categories.

Cole Sands could stand to come back for another season. He didn’t play poorly, but he could improve a great deal in a year.

The biggest thing for him is control. He led the team in wild pitches and had an ERA of 4.54 which was the highest of all the starters.

The player whose situation is hardest to read is Jackson Lueck. His batting average has dipped every year since his freshman season and he struck out 25 percent of his at bats in 2018.

However, his homeruns did jump from nine to 15 over the past year. It seems like he could stand to come back for his senior year and fine tune some things a the plate to improve his draft stock.

Tyler Holton has already announced he will not be returning to FSU after getting injured in the first game and missing this season due to Tommy John surgery.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Lueck and Sands as FSU baseball could use their experience next season. However, we can’t blame them for a likely six figure contract.
