FSU Football: Top 3 instant impact freshmen players for 2018 season
It seems like every year FSU football has that one freshman who comes on the scene and blows up – so who will make an instant impact for the 2018 class?
It seems like true freshmen playing early is becoming more and more common as the years go by – which means there is an abundance of true freshmen making an impact around the nation. This is especially true when it comes to FSU football from Jalen Ramsey and Nate Andrews in the 2013 championship year, who were making plays all over the field.
Then came Dalvin Cook in 2014, who broke the ‘Noles freshman rushing record with 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns. As for last year, true freshman Cam Akers (who broke Cook’s freshman rushing record) was one of the lone bright spots during the dramatic 2017 FSU football season.
While #Tribe18 has talent all over the board, some players will be able to see the field right away due to depth (or lack thereof) and others will play early due to heavy rotation in coach Willie Taggart’s new offense.
No. 3 – Jaiden Woodbey, Safety

We’ve already heard a lot about the former five star and Bellflower, California native. This kid is bleeds garnet and gold, and he has a chance to impress fans early. FSU football lost star safety Derwin James to the 2018 NFL draft and with his departure, the free safety spot is up for grabs.
Woodbey impressed in the spring game, recording a game high of nine tackles and really looking like a vet out there. In my opinion, Woodbey showed more than rising sophomore Cyrus Fagan and will be the day one starter in the home opener against Virginia Tech this fall.
No. 2 – Anthony Lytton, Cornerback
Anthony Lytton is a kid who doesn’t get talked about much and maybe because he’s been solid to the Seminoles since April of last year. Lytton is a player that just makes it look easy and the kid is as smooth as silk. At 5’11”, 175 lbs., I can see him playing both the outside and in the nickel role.
With the dynamic tandem of Stanford Samuels and Levonta Taylor manning the outsides, Lytton will likely compete for the nickel spot for FSU football for the time being – a competition he could very much win with Kyle Myers struggling a lot last year after the Miami game, which means it could be anyone’s job – including Lytton’s.
No. 1 – Jordan Young, Wide Receiver

Welcome to the amusement park – that’s the name of Jordan Young’s highlight tape and boy, does it deliver. I believe Young is the best wide receiver in our 2018 class and there’s some studs in there. Young just has Amari Cooper and AJ Green written all over him, he is a big physical receiver with legit 4.4 speed.

Young consistently makes circus catches and is more physical than the opposing defender. With the offense being set up the way it is for FSU football and rotating receivers so often, Young has a chance to take the ACC by storm.
