FSU Baseball: Drew Parrish’s day should have been done after delay
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball is the first No. 1 seed eliminated from regional play.
FSU baseball and Drew Parrish were dealing through the first eight innings against Mississippi State. The lefty was dominant through eight innings of shutout ball on 109 pitches.
Then the rain came and a two and a half hour rain delay.
The Noles lead 2-0 going into the bottom of the ninth inning and Drew Parrish gave up a three run bomb on a 1-2 pitch to end the FSU baseball season with a (43-19) record.
The problem is Mike Martin should have never send Drew Parrish back out to the mound after such a long delay.
I get it. The FSU bullpen has been unreliable at times and he had shut down the Bulldogs all day long.
However, as a former pitcher, I can tell you it’s incredibly difficult to sit for that long and be effective after throwing so many pitches.
Mike Martin said Parrish wanted to go back out there to finish the game and of course he did. However, you’d think after 40 years of coaching Martin would know what I just explained in the earlier paragraph.
The sad part is he said if he had it to go back over again he’d send Drew Parrish out there to do it again.
What?
Mike Martin has forgotten more about baseball that I’ll ever know, but he’s wrong in this instance. I would have questioned Parrish going back out there even if the Noles went on to win the game.
He gave the homerun up on the 132nd pitch of the game. The crazy part is social media ALL could not believe Mike Martin was sending Parrish back out there after such a long delay either!

Final Thoughts
First off, hats off to Drew Parrish as the kid gave everything he had and stepped up with Tyler Holton went down in the first game of the season. He’s a stud and it sucks he has to experience a loss like that.
For the second year in a row the Noles battled to overcome adversity, injuries and poor defense to win the ACC in back-to-back years for the first time ever. However, this program just seems like it can’t get over the hump in postseason play.

It’ll be an interesting offseason with regards to what the future is for Mike Martin.
