FSU Football: Writer says Noles have no chance at 2018 national title
By Jason Parker
FSU football knows it’s going to have an uphill battle for a run at the 2018 national title – but one writer says they shouldn’t even think about it.
In 1993, the FSU football team started off the season as the top ranked team and got back on top before winning the first national title in program history. In 1999, the Seminoles went wire to wire as the top ranked team to win title number two while the 2013 team started outside the top 10 before finishing with the third title in program history.
For the 2018 Seminoles, the road is going to be a lot more difficult if No. 4 is going to be added to the trophy case in Tallahassee – between a roadblock filled schedule, a new head coach and replacing several spots, it’s not an impossible task but there aren’t many people penciling the Noles into one of the four College Football Playoff spots.
Despite that, FSU football is going to go out with the mindset they are a championship team – the way every team should act each and every single week. According to one writer, the Seminoles are wasting time by doing that.
Bill Bender from the Sporting News recently gave his predictions of which teams in the Power Five can legit compete for a national title this season – as well as independents and who will represent the Group of Five teams. While Bender thinks the Noles could make a run at a New Year Six bowl game, it won’t be the Orange or Cotton – site of this year’s playoff semifinals.
"Florida State and Miami have the talent, but the Seminoles have a first-year coach in Willie Taggart and the Canes lost the ACC championship 38-3 last season."
That’s the reason? Because the new FSU football leader is in hist first season? I mean, I’ve seen lazy takes before but that one might take the cake.
Bender said that just eight teams – Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin – have a shot at winning the title this season. So you know what, other 122 FBS teams? Just don’t worry about playing the games this season because we’ve got this on lock.

Of course I’m being totally sarcastic with that. FSU football has just as good a chance as the rest of the FBS once the first week of September rolls around – it’s on the Noles after that to prove the naysayers wrong from there.
