Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2018 baseball season.

For the final time this regular season, the FSU baseball team will take the field inside Dick Howser Stadium when they host a team they are looking up at in the ACC Atlantic Division standings – in a series that may be the most important one in recent memory for head coach Mike Martin and his team.

While the Noles will likely be home for the first round of the NCAA tournament in a couple weekends, Florida State knows that things will go a lot smoother from this point on if they can get at least two wins this weekend – and get some help from other teams in the ACC before it’s everyone for themselves in Durham next weekend.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s game between the Seminoles and the N.C. State Wolfpack

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

FSU baseball stepped out of the ACC for the final time in the 2018 regular season when they hosted a Mount St. Mary’s team who was so desperate for attention and money they signed up for another game of humiliation in Tallahassee last weekend – losing by a combined 50-4 in four games, two of which were just seven innings.

The action started Friday with the Seminoles getting all extra base hits – nine doubles, a triple and a home run from Jackson Lueck – en route to a 12-2 victory. Saturday saw Lueck and Cal Raleigh go yard in the 10-0 victory in the first game of a double header, while Raleigh and Reese Albert did the duties in an 8-2 victory in game two.

Sunday, the offense came alive for the Seminoles as the Seminoles hit four home runs – Lueck, back to back shots from Drew Mendoza and Steven Wells and one from Kyle Cavanaugh as part of a five RBI day along with Mendoza – as the Noles dropped 13 runs in the first two innings and added more late in a 22-0 victory for the four game sweep.

Opponent Preview

The Wolfpack come to Tallahassee this weekend with a record of 39-12 on the season and a ranking as high as No. 4 in several polls. N. C state has been streaky of late, winning eight straight including a sweep of Wake Forest last weekend after losing five straight games and winning five straight before that.

On the season, the men from Raleigh are batting .297 as a team with four normal starters batting over .300 at this point. On the mound, the Wolfpack have been hit around a little and have an ERA of 3.59 at this point but also have held opposing batters to just a .234 average this season.

Interesting Fact

When it comes to the final series of the season, FSU baseball has been just average over the past five seasons – literally. The Seminoles have a 7-7 mark for the final weekend, including winning a shortened two game series last year at Louisville in the only away series in that group.

Before that, the Noles lost two of three to Miami, were swept by Clemson, took two of three from Duke and Clemson to get back to .500.
