FSU Football: Top non-Florida prospects Noles fans should know
FSU football is back on the recruiting trail looking to bring the best players in for #Tribe19 – here are the best players not in the Sunshine State.
Keeping up with recruiting can be difficult as there’s so many kids to keep tabs on just in the state of Florida alone. Staying updated on kids out of state can be even more tough, especially if you’re a native of the Sunshine sState. Here’s my list and evaluation of the top five recruits FSU football fans should familiarize themselves with.
No. 5 – Lance Wilhoite, WR (Nashville, Tennessee)
Lance Wilhoite is a 6’2, 180 lbs. wide out from Franklin Road Academy. He is a big body receiver who possesses enough wiggle and speed to make things happen in open space. His route running may be his most impressive feature – he transitions between breaks very well for a young receiver of his stature.
His game is reminiscent of former Ole Miss and current Minnesota Vikings receiver Laquon Treadwell. With Frank Ladson’s commitment to Clemson, I believe the staff will turn the heat on with multiple targets including Wilhoite.
Florida State Seminoles Football
No. 4 – Lance LeGendre, QB (New Orleans, Louisiana)
Though FSU football has a current blue-chip quarterback in Sam Howell committed, it’s pivotal they take two this cycle after not taking one in 2018. The 6’2, 200 lbs. signal caller is a current Kansas commit, but recently said FSU has the best shot at “flipping” him according to an article from 247sports.com.
LeGendre is a great athlete and can really sling the ball. His athleticism makes him a perfect fit for Coach Taggart’s “Gulf Coast” offense, and he can be used much like former USF signal caller Quinton Flowers.
No. 3 – Nakobe Dean, ILB (Horn Lake, Mississippi)
Nakobe Dean is the top linebacker in the nation and after watching he has definitely earned that title. His instincts are already college ready, as he’s one of those special players that can diagnose plays before they happen.
He excels at stuffing the run and he plays the enforcer role really well. The staff already has a good relationship with Dean and will have to keep the pressure on him to get him to be a Seminole by the time this cycle is over – right now I believe his recruitment is wide open.
No. 2 – Nick Cross, S (Hyattsville, Maryland)
Nick Cross is considered one of the best safeties in the nation and it is for very good reason. At 6’0, 218 lbs., Cross is a hard hitter really making receivers pay for catching the ball around him. Though he is a very physical player, he is not limited to an “enforcer” role.
Cross displays great coverage skills and speed. His game reminds me a lot of former Alabama and current New York Giants safety Landon Collins. FSU football has picked up great momentum with Cross recently and he’s planning on visiting Tallahassee late June.
No. 1 – Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE (Thousand Oaks, California)
Most FSU football fans already know about this kid as he is the number one overall prospect according to most sites. Thibodeaux is a very, very physical defensive-end from Oaks Christian. At 6’5, 235 lbs. he has a very impressive first step so much so that most of the offensive tackles on his tape don’t even have chance.
If the tackle does get a hand on him, he uses his power to bulldoze right over them. His speed and athleticism mixed with physicality is comparable to Dante Fowler Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars. FSU really impressed Thibodeaux during the spring game, so much in fact that he’s coming back on an official in the season opener.
Next: Can Seminoles land 2019 powerhouse duo from Cali?
FSU football is in a great spot with Thibodeaux right now ,but it’s up to the staff to keep the heat on him.
