Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2018 baseball season.

After losing two out of three on the road to a team they are looking up at in the ACC Atlantic Division standings, the FSU baseball team returned for the first of eight games at home to end the season and got a season sweep over a long time in-state foe to continue their good fortune against the men from Duval County.

Now, the Seminoles head back onto the field of Dick Howser Stadium for four games this weekend in their final non-conference series of the regular season looking to get some momentum heading into the final week of the season – and possibly get close to continuing their streak of 40 win seasons that has been going longer than Mike Martin has been in the dugout as head coach.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s game between the Seminoles and the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

For the final time this regular season, the Seminoles faced off with the Jacksonville Dolphins. After JU got on the board first, FSU baseball got three runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in the bottom of the third as part of a three RBI day for Reese Albert and two RBIs each from Drew Mendoza and Rafael Bournigal en route to a 10-4 victory.

Opponent Preview

The Mountaineers come to town for a four game set – as the Noles make up a game rained out from their series against Duke last month – with a record of 20-25 on the season, but are getting hot at the right time by winning nine of their last 11 games including three out of four last weekend against Central Connecticut State.

On the season, MSM is batting .277 at the plate – but their biggest problems have been on the mound this season as the pitching staff has a combined ERA of a robust 6.53 on the year while allowing opponents to bat .307 so far this season.

Interesting Fact

When FSU baseball hosts the men from Maryland this weekend, it will not just be the first time they have met on the diamond – but it will be just the second time the Seminoles have played the Mountaineers in ANY sport. The teams met inside the Tucker Center back in December 1993, with the men’s basketball team getting a 27 point victory ahead of ACC play starting.
