Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2018 baseball season.

As the final out was recorded inside a small baseball stadium in western South Carolina this past weekend, history was made for the FSU baseball program as they helped their long term coach final reach a level that no coach has been to before – and probably no one will get to for a long while if ever again.

The Seminoles followed that up by dropping two winnable games in the ACC Atlantic Division that guaranteed that the Noles will not be bringing home another divisional crown. Now, it’s back to non-conference play for the next four games before finishing up the season at home looking to solidify a high spot in the conference tournament.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s game between the Seminoles and the Jacksonville Dolphins.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

History was made on Saturday night as FSU baseball took on the first place Clemson Tigers on the road. Of course, much like the road to 1,976 wins for head coach Mike Martin, things wouldn’t go easy as the Seminoles blew a 2-0 lead the game went into extra innings – as Steven Wells’ solo shot was the difference as the Noles got a 3-2 win and the record for most wins by a college coach now resides in Tallahassee.

Sunday and Monday would be a different story for the Seminoles. The Noles would have a tied ball game on Sunday in the third inning before Clemson scored five runs in the bottom part of the frame and cruised to a 12-7 victory.

On Monday, in front of a national television audience, Florida State again blew a two run lead and watched the Tigers hit a game winning solo shot in the bottom of the ninth and took the series with that 5-4 win, moving five games up on the Seminoles in the Atlantic Division with the Noles having just three conference games left.

Opponent Preview

The Dolphins from Jacksonville have been hot recently, winning nine of their last 12 games – including a victory on the road over the top ranked Florida Gators – to move their record to 31-16 on the season, with two of those losses coming last weekend in a rain shortened series to the Stetson Haters.

As a team, the Dolphins are batting .280 as a team with three of their normal starters batting over .300 at this point in the year. On the mound, Jacksonville’s staff has an ERA of 3.84 through their games this season while holding opposing batters to a .254 average so far.

Next: Title or not, Mike Martin should retire after 2018

Interesting Fact

FSU baseball will be going for another sweep over their longtime foes – having won 4-0 and 6-2 earlier this season – which would be the sixth sweep by the Seminoles in the last eight seasons over the Dolphins. The teams split their two games in 2015 while the Dolphins came out with the rare sweep over the Noles in 2016.
