FSU football will travel down to play the Miami Hurricanes this season – with one official claiming the bandwagon fans might actually buy tickets this year.

If you’ve ever gotten a chance to watch a Miami Hurricanes football game where they aren’t lucky to have FSU football come in and actually sell out their rented stadium over the last decade, you might think that the fans are really coordinated and wearing the same color – only to realize those are just empty seats throughout what is now called Hard Rock Stadium.

It’s a problem that has been part of what was once “The U” dating back to when the played at the Orange Bowl – fans in orange and green love to talk about their fandom but don’t actually come out and support the team when they play anyone other than the Seminoles or the occasionally big name program like a Notre Dame, Ohio State or Florida.

Now, after their first double digit win season in over a decade that ended with a three game losing streak (I’m pretty sure Clemson just scored again in the ACC title game), the longtime FSU football rival is thinking they are relevant again – with the school’s athletics director claiming they may actually sell out season tickets this season according to the Miami Herald.

"“I’m going to go out on a limb and say we’re going to sell out Hard Rock Stadium for I think it’ll be the first time in the history of Miami Hurricanes football,” (Blake) James told WQAM on Friday. “Obviously, the Orange Bowl was a little bit bigger. I don’t know what all the numbers were back then, but I know we never sold it out in season tickets. We’re gonna get to that point this year.”"

That’s so cute to think that they are a relevant school again! Last season, Miami averaged just over 57,700 announced per game inside their rented stadium miles from campus – a number that is laughable when you include the fact they had three games over 63,000 in announced attendance, including a so-called sellout of the Notre Dame game.

What was FSU football’s lowest announced attendance during last year’s down season? 58,780 for the rescheduled game against Louisiana-Monroe. That’s right, the Seminoles had more people for a game that had to be rescheduled with fans coming from across the state than Miami had for four of their seven homes games last season.

Don’t worry, Miami – FSU football will be back down in October with our actual fans to show you how to fill up a stadium. Those sounds you hear will be us celebrating another win in South Florida as the Seminoles have won their last eight games in the 305 dating back to the 2006 season – six against the Hurricanes (five at Hard Rock, one at the Orange Bowl) and two bowl games.
