FSU baseball coach Mike Martin holds the record for most wins all-time in NCAA Division 1 history.
FSU baseball coach Mike Martin handled the record-breaking moment as you’d expect Saturday night, pure humility and credit to all the players he’s coached over the years.
It was fitting to break the record in an extra inning affair over a top 10 team in Clemson. That game personified what breaking the record encompasses.
It took patience, a team of very good players and a little bit of luck. FSU is lucky to have a coach like Mike Martin and the evidence of how folk reacted to his achievement speaks volumes.
Check out their reactions below as Martin heard from fans and the Texas Longhorns where the late record holder Augie Garrido coached for many years.

1995. Mike Martin approached a Sr catcher from Wake Forest with this unsolicited message. “Dadgummit Wagner, you’ve been a pain in our ass for the last 3 years. It’s been a pleasure watching you play.” He got on a bus and went back to Tallahassee. #Neverforgotit https://t.co/mlxMfo8Fqe

Only three active coaches have even 1,400 wins.
Brian O'Connor, who ranks third in winning percentage among active coaches, would have to win 40 games for the next 38 years to get to 1,975 wins.

Thoughts
It’s great to see all the head coaches, reporters and media outlets show respect to Mike Martin. When people can refer to you as simply “11” you know you’re a legend in the game.
Of course there were some haters from FSU rivals pointing out Martin has yet to win a College World Series title.
That’s true, but I’d like to think I’d want to consistently be great than win one college world series and be mediocre the rest of the time.
College baseball is similar to football in that there’s a good amount of luck that’s involved in winning a national championship no matter how good your team is.
Sometimes the injury God’s take their toll and other times a bad call here or badly timed error can cost teams big time.
FSU is planning to hold a celebration for Mike Martin prior to the season finale against NC State May 19th in Tallahassee.
