Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2018 baseball season.

It was all there for FSU baseball last weekend – a chance to continue the sorrow of their hated rival on the diamond while getting a much-needed sweep in the ACC and finally getting their long time skipper his historical win. But, much like big moments in the program’s history, the Seminoles came up just short of being able to win when it mattered.

Now, the Noles hit the road this weekend facing a team they are looking up at in the Atlantic Division standings still looking to get just one more win to finally have people stop talking about a 39 season win total that has overshadowed the solid job this team has done with the amount of injuries through the first two thirds of the season.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s game between the Seminoles and the Clemson Tigers.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

Friday night, FSU baseball started a three game set with the rival Miami Hurricanes and the opener was a pitcher’s duel of epic levels. After Cal Raleigh got a two run homer in the first inning, the scoring stopped as Drew Parrish through eight innings of shut out ball, striking out 13 and giving up just four hits in the 2-0 win.

Saturday, the bats came out for the Seminoles as they took a 4-0 lead through the first six innings and added six runs over the next two innings that included a two run shot by Drew Mendoza anda two run double by Rhett Aplin as the Noles coasted to a 10-1 victory.

Sunday, Florida State was looking for the sweep and had a 3-1 lead going into the fifth inning until the Hurricanes woke up and dropped 10 straight runs over the next four innings, spoiling any chance of Mike Martin getting his record setting win as Miami salvaged a game in their sad season with an 11-5 victory.

Opponent Preview

Since dropping two out of three games against those Canes, the Clemson Tigers have won nine of their last 10 games and have a 34-11 record entering this weekend’s series – with eight straight wins that include series sweeps over both ACC foes Wake Forest and Virginia in the last two weekends.

At the plate this season, the Tigers are batting just .253 as a team and do not have one normal starter batting over .285 up to this point. On the mound, Clemson’s staff has an ERA of 3.46 this year and are holding opponents to a .235 average so far.

Interesting Fact

With Martin needing just one more win to get the record for most in the history of the game, the law of averages is in his favor to get at least one win this weekend against the Tigers. FSU baseball hasn’t been swept in the Palmetto State since the 2010 season, getting one win each during their 2012 and 2016 meetings and two wins in the 2014 showdown.
