FSU Football: Why Noles shouldn’t entertain Jalen Hurts transfer
By Kelvin Hunt
Should FSU football entertain the thoughts of taking Jalen Hurts as a transfer?
There was a report earlier this week that suggest Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts could transfer if he’s not the starter going into the 2018 season.
Of course, FSU fans began to think about entertaining the thought of FSU being a destination for Hurts.
So I had to ask myself the question of if that would be a good move?
In a nutshell that answer is a big NO for FSU football. I mean, how feasible is it to begin with anyways?
If Jalen Hurts hasn’t received his degree from Alabama he’ll have to sit out a year before being able to play anywhere.
On top of that, FSU already has two quarterbacks with starting experience on the roster and a third that will have been in college for two years by the time Hurts got to FSU.
The Real Reason
However, the biggest reason I’d say hard pass on Hurts is he’s just not a good college quarterback.
As someone said on Twitter the other day, FSU already has enough running backs on the roster. Would Hurts fit Taggart’s offense like a glove?
Not really, because quarterbacks have to be able to throw the ball past the line of scrimmage in Taggart’s offense. The guy completed 60 percent of his passes in 2017 but the large majority of them didn’t go 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.
Hurts averaged 11 rushing attempts per game in 2017. Willie Taggart isn’t going to run the quarterback that much, at least not consistently, and especially not if he has a quarterback that can hit the broad side of a barn downfield.
Also, how would bringing in Hurts affect FSU recruiting? FSU already has its quarterback for the 2019 class, but would that impact his decision if it were announced Hurts was transferring to FSU?
Now, what could change the game is if Deondre Francois manages to continue doing dumb things and is no longer on the team by the time the season starts.

That would put FSU in almost the same predicament as last year. That’s why it’ll be smart of Willie Taggart to take a second quarterback in the 2019 recruiting cycle instead of a Jalen Hurts transfer.
