Bailey Hockman

I was higher than most regarding Bailey Hockman when he early enrolled at FSU and was pleasantly surprised by his spring game performance last season.

The same can be said for this year. I thought Hockman did a lot of good things(while playing with a bum foot no less) Saturday.

However, it should be noted Hockman had the better receivers who were not going up against a single scholarship defensive back (who drafted this teams?)

That was evident on Hockman’s first throw of the game to a wide open Tamorrion Terry who caught the pass with no defender within 10-12 yards of him.

Hockman also has a nice pass over the middle to DJ Matthews for a huge gain.

That was reminiscent of Jameis Winston to Ermon Lane against Louisville in 2014. However, it should be concerning Hockman only completed about half of his passes on the day with the better receivers going up against walk-on’s.

There was a play on Hockman’s second possession of the day where he should have thrown the ball away. Instead, he took a sack for a huge loss and would have been sacked like on the play were Francois got injured against Alabama.

I think Hockman did have one delay of game penalty as well which is hard to believe with the tempo they were using.

All in all, I feel Hockman has a solid grasp of what Willie Taggart wants to do on offense. However, does he have the arm strength to stretch the field vertically?

It looked like some of his balls float a bit which won’t fly against scholarship defensive backs. Would that pass have been completed against higher caliber players?
