FSU baseball will be the center of the college baseball world when their longtime leader gets 10 more wins to become the all time leader.

For the past 39 seasons, one of the constants with the FSU baseball program has been the man wearing No. 11 in the dugout – as head coach Mike Martin has led the team to a total of 16 trips to the College World Series during a nearly four decade tenure that has included a total of 1,966 wins during that span.

While that number might not mean a lot to some, it means that the Seminoles are within 10 games of being the team that has the winningest college baseball coach of all time. When the Noles win their next 10 games, it means that Martin will have topped the legendary former Texas and Cal State Fullerton coach Augie Garrido – who finished with 1,975 wins.

So, if you are a fan of FSU baseball, the question that everyone is asking is simple: when will the Seminoles be able to give Martin the record with 10 more wins on the field of play.

If the Seminoles are to win their next 10 games straight (a span that includes games against Jacksonville, Georgia Tech, Florida and Duke), FSU baseball would be celebrating the milestone in the second game of a weekday series against Stetson on Wednesday, April 18th.

That game is significant because it would be the last time the Noles could get the honor for Mike Martin at home for a week and a half as the Seminoles play three games at Boston College (including a Saturday game at Fenway Park) and a weekday game at Stetson.

If the Seminoles were to lose five of their next nine games (which isn’t a total stretch since they can’t seem to beat the Gators, the Blue Devils are on top of the Coastal Division and the series with the Yellow Jackets is on the road), then the milestone could be achieved back inside Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium?

The opponent for that chance on April 27th? The longtime rival Miami Hurricanes, who Martin has made no secret of his distain for during his tenure.

At 22-7, FSU baseball has seemed to have moments where it looks like they have got their act together. A loss in the series finale to Louisville this past weekend wasn’t a good look, but the team is still on pace to get Martin the record at home if they win out.

No matter when it is and where it takes place, Mike Martin will become the winningest coach in the history of college baseball – now, if those wins can continue into Omaha this summer, he could possibly get that elusive national title.
