FSU basketball may have been a year ahead of schedule with their overall performance in 2018.

FSU basketball had its best post-season run in 25 years that culminated in its first trip to the NCAA Tournament Elite 8 since 1993.

The squad finished the season (23-12, 9-9 ACC) and while it was a great finish to the season, there’s a lot of work to be done for a team that’s bringing back almost everyone.

The team lost seven games by SIX points or less which largely came down to two crucial areas we’ll cover later.

Five of those seven losses came in ACC conference play. If FSU won those five games they would have finished second in the conference at worst.

The Noles lose starters Phil Cofer and Braian Angola, but everyone else should be returning unless someone inexplicably decides to turn pro.

Those two players were impactful, but losing them will not be the same as losing Jonathan Isaac, Dwayne Bacon and Xavier Rathan-Mayes off last year’s squad to the NBA.

The 2017 team seemed to find another gear in the NCAA Tournament and could make some noise if they’re able to find that cohesion next year.

Let’s look at the five areas where improvement is needed most moving forward.
