Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2018 baseball season.

After a 2017 season in which the FSU baseball team had their share of struggles early on, the 2018 season has been light years different as the Seminoles have cruised through the first baker’s dozen games this year with relevaitvly no issues – aside from a couple game winners and a massive comeback this week.

Now, the undefeated Noles begin ACC play this weekend with a zero in the loss column for the first time in a while – but it won’t be easy with 13 of their next 16 games being against teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season, including two against their hated rivals from Gainesville.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s game between the Seminoles and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in what will be an abbreviated series – with the teams playing Friday and a  doubleheader on Saturday due to expected nasty weather later in the weekend.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

FSU baseball took on the Kansas Jayhawks for the first time ever in a two game set this past week and made sure that it was a memorable debut in this series. In the opener Monday, the Seminoles found themselves down by five runs before scoring 10 unanswered – which included three RBIs each for Drew Mendoza and Rafael Bournigal – in the 10-5 victory.

Tuesday, it was the Noles who jumped out early with 12 runs in the first six innings, which included three RBIs each by Cal Raleigh and Jared Herron, which was more than enough for the pitching staff by committee that head coach Mike Martin employed for the 12-7 victory that moved the Seminoles to 13-0 on the season.

Opponent Preview

After playing in a Super Regional last season and almost beating the Florida Gators, the Demon Deacons have struggled so far this season and come into the series with a 5-8 record. On the season, Wake Forest is batting just .251 as a team to start the season while their pitching staff as a respectable 3.51 ERA while opponents are batting just .223 against them.

Interesting Fact

Even with a tough schedule ahead of them, FSU baseball does have recent history on their side when it comes to opening conference play – as the Seminoles have lost just two ACC opening series in their entire history of playing in the conference, with both coming in the last 10 seasons (2008 to Boston College and 2009 to Virginia).
