FSU Football throwback videos promoting spring game are glorious
By Jason Parker
FSU football is going all out to bring the past back at this year’s Garnet and Gold game – and these promo videos are going to give you all the feels.
In exactly six weeks (good God, that can’t come soon enough) the FSU football team will be back on the field at Doak Campbell Stadium for the annual spring game. But while the players on the field may be guys like James Blackman, Brian Burns and Cam Akers, they might as well be Charlie Ward, Andre Wadsworth and Warrick Dunn.
New head coach Willie Taggart, who makes no secret of his undying love for the Seminoles dating back to his time growing up just outside the Bradenton area, is making it feel like it’s 1994 and the Noles are in the middle of their dynasty era with the way this year’s Garnet and Gold game is looking.
We’re not just talking about the post game concert with Salt-N-Pepa, Vanilla Ice and Rob Base (that’s going to be hilarious) but also the consistent rumors that throwback jerseys and even a throwback field design might be taking place come April 14th around 6 p.m.
The officials Instagram account for FSU football is helping the matter by releasing videos earlier this week with the old school feel – revealing the end zone look of the 1990’s will be making a return along with videos of great moments from players like Rock Preston, Peter Boulware and more with new stars like Nyqwan Murray and Stanford Samuels III.
As someone who was at all those classic moments, the chills and goosebumps are a real thing – meaning that this spring game is going to be something that old school fans of the Seminoles are going to have one heck of a time.
Now, as someone who grew up with the old school FSU football ways and traditions, I’ll admit that it took me a while to warm up to the red end zones in 2008 and the new uniform look in 2014. But the bottom line is simple – we are Seminoles and we support Florida State no matter what.
Taggart and his staff have done a good thing by honoring the past – while also wanting to move the program forward toward another title. It’s a fine line to tightrope on at times, but so far they are keeping their balance.
