Josh Sweat

"DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 2-3"

"NFL Comparison: Barkevious Mingo BOTTOM LINE Sweat has the length, frame and athletic qualities to fit right in as a 3-4 SAM or rush linebacker, but he needs to go to school with a position coach or a talented veteran to help unlock his pass rush potential. Sweat’s initial quickness and issues with contact balance could hinder his ability to play with his hand down. He has the ability to become a decent NFL starter but there is a wide disparity between his ceiling and floor thanks to concerns surrounding the current and future health of his knee."

Thoughts

I’m still amazed Josh Sweat played and started for FSU football as a true freshman coming off that horrific knee injury in high school.

He seemed to get better and better each year removed from the injury and his stats back up that claim. Sweat finished with career highs in tackles and tackles for loss junior year at FSU.

I expect him to perform well at the NFL Combine as the former staff always lauded how strong he was. His biggest issue is lack of moves and sheer reaction time off the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.

He could go in the second round with a strong combine, but could slip to the fourth if he doesn’t.
