FSU Basketball moving up latest Bracketology projections
By Jason Parker
FSU basketball hasn’t played a game yet this week entering Sunday – but that doesn’t matter to those who project the NCAA tournament field.
If you have been wondering what happened with the FSU basketball program, don’t fear – they are still around after having an entire week off between games. After coming back to defeat a winless-in-ACC-play Pittsburgh team last Sunday, the Seminoles head to Raleigh this week to face the N.C. State Wolfpack.
At the same time, while the 19-8 Noles haven’t taken the court in that time period, they have actually gotten some more love. After getting a win over a ranked Clemson team over a week and a half ago, the Seminoles now have a resume that – with a win over the Wolfpack or one in their final two games next week – should have them dancing in March for the second straight season.
After being a team that was dropping like a fly in the world of Bracketology for the last few weeks, FSU basketball has seen their stock rise following a strong showing. Both ESPN and CBS Sports released their most recent projections for the 68 team field with each having the Seminoles with a single number by their name.
"ESPN Bracketology updated ThursdayMidwest Region (Dallas)No. 6 FLORIDA STATE vs. No. 11 Middle Tennessee StateNo. 3 Wichita State vs. No. 14 BelmontCBS Bracketology updated FridaySouth Region (Detroit)No. 7 FLORIDA STATE vs. No. 10 Texas A&MNo. 2 Michigan State vs. No. 15 Montana"
A few interesting things with each of the Bracketology projections are seen this weekend. First, the Worldwide Leader is all about a Sunshine State regional with both the Seminoles, Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gulf Coast Eagles playing in the same region. The Noles and Gators couldn’t meet until the Sweet 16 while the Canes and FGCU wouldn’t be possible until the Elite Eight round.
CBS has things a little bit different, with both the Gators and Eagles having to battle in the play-in round just to make it to the first weekend. They also have FSU basketball not having a chance to face an ACC team until the Elite Eight round, with Virginia being the only other conference foe projected for that region.
Next: How’s Florida projected as higher seed than Noles by ESPN?
Of course, with another week of the regular season and the conference tournament week still to play, things are nowhere even close to being written in stone – and the Seminoles know the work has only started to cement their spot in March Madness again.
