FSU Football: Wille Taggart uses three words to convince 2018 recruits
By Jason Parker
FSU football enjoyed proving the doubters wrong with their recruiting class – and it turns out the head man had to just use one statement to close the deal.
It was a new era in Tallahassee during the 2018 recruiting season as FSU football attempted to salvage their class that had been neglected before. Luckily, the Seminoles have a coach in Willie Taggart and a group of assistants who worked nonstop to bring in a class that went from being in the mid 60s at one point to being a consensus top 11 recruiting class.
Even with a 7-6 record last season that was only that “good” because of a four game winning streak to end the year, the Seminoles were a sexy destination for some of the top recruits in the country even with some wondering about what the Taggart era would be like.
When it was all said and done, the new head Seminole had done his job and gotten the top players from across the state and around the country. During an interview with Sports Illustrated about his “dream job”, Taggart revealed to a crowed of supporters on National Signing Day the way he convinced those out of state recruits to come to join FSU football.
"“It’s Florida State,” Taggart said.To him, that answer didn’t require elaboration. But he knew his audience needed more explanation, so he praised the staff and the current players for making the recruits from far away feel at home. But then, at the end of the answer, he came full circle. “But, again, it’s Florida State,” Taggart said."
Finally! A coach that gets it! FSU football is not a second fiddle program that should have to do many hard sells when it comes to their history. Everyone knows that the Seminoles have done – the national titles, conference championships and more – and that alone is something that every great recruit should want to be a part of.
Now, I’m not saying that players should come into Florida State and expected to win without working – that’s what took place toward the end of last decade and the last two years of out last coach – but they should want to be a part of an amazing tradition and further it.
Taggart also went on to talk about why he left Oregon after just one season – leaving to coach the team he grew up rooting for in the Bradenton area.
"“You know you’re going to get criticism,” Taggart said, “but when you’ve been chasing something all your life and something you’ve worked really hard for, it shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks.”"

Here is what we think, Coach: we love having you in Tallahassee already and will #DoSomething to make sure that FSU football is known as the power we are and have your back.
