FSU football is waiting to see which players will declare for the NFL draft.

FSU football will bring a young talented roster back for the 2018 season, but it could be even more stacked if NFL Draft eligible players come back for their senior season.

Of course Derwin James and Josh Sweat will be heading to the NFL next year.

The ‘Noles received great news immediately after their Independence Bowl win against Southern Mississippi when defensive tackle DeMarcus Christmas announced he’ll be back for his senior year.

There are several players that have yet to make a decision on their future:

Tate and Izzo are the most important players along with Christmas depth wise for the ‘Noles. Tate is the most impactful wide receiver by far and Izzo is the most experienced tight end now that Mavin Saunders has transferred to Kansas after graduating.

I’m not sure if that tweet means Tate is returning for his senior season or not, but the timing and nature of the tweet could suggest it.

Murray is likely to come back unless he wants to become an undrafted free agent. It’s rumored he was suspended for the Independence Bowl which isn’t surprising with his past attitude issues.

Jacques Patrick returning could help the ‘Noles somewhat, but there’s number of younger more talented running backs vying for playing time in 2018.

Tarvarus McFadden had a down year from his breakout redshirt freshman season in 2016. It’s possible his stock has dropped so much that he needs to come back for his redshirt junior season.

While it would be beneficial to have him back in the secondary, Stanford Samuels could potentially take over his boundary cornerback position with Levonta Taylor taking over the field cornerback position if need be.

Thoughts

It would be huge if Tate and Izzo return as both could be huge players in Willie Taggart’s offense. If both declare that would be a significant amount of experience and production leaving at the same time.

Murray isn’t going anywhere, and if he did it could be addition by subtraction.

If Jacques Patrick declares, FSU’s in good shape with Cam Akers and Amir Rasul being the most experienced backs there.

Tarvarus McFadden, while talented, needs to gain confidence if he decides to come back to be the player he was a year ago.
