Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming week of games scheduled for play during the 2017-18 basketball season.

Over the first month of the season for FSU basketball, the Seminoles have faced competition that wasn’t always the most challenging, to be perfectly honest. That all changed this week, as the Noles faced one of the top teams in the country, a team who lost three previous games by less than 15 points and one of the top mid-majors in the country.

In each case, Florida State came out on top and showed why they may be one of the most underrated teams so far in college basketball through the non-conference slate as the Seminoles are currently one of just seven teams in Division 1 who remain unbeaten entering the upcoming week – in which the Noles will have a much lighter work load.

Here’s our recap of last week’s action and a preview of this week’s games for the Seminoles.

Last Week Recap

The action started for the Seminoles last Monday, when not only did they make history with a fourth straight win over then fifth ranked Florida for the first time in series history, but they flat out owned the Gators for much of the second half in route to a 83-66 victory over their hated rivals – led by a 25 point outing from the star of the offense, Terance Mann.

Last Wednesday, FSU basketball returned home for a quick game against Loyola (MD), in which the Seminoles got 18 points from Braian Angola and a combined 29 points from the Walker duo of MJ and CJ – who also combined for seven three pointers in the game – as the Noles coasted to a 96-71 victory to extend their winning streak inside the Tucker Center.

On Sunday, it was back on the road as the Seminoles were in Tampa to face a Tulane Green Wave team they haven’t played in decades. FSU basketball had stretches of glory and ones of strain in the first half before blowing it wide open in the second 20 minutes, getting 18 points from Angola and 12 each from Mann and Trent Forrest in the 72-53 win.

Opponent Preview

The Seminoles will get to wait a little while before taking the court again, as they will head down to the suburbs of Fort Lauderdale for the annual Orange Bowl Basketball Classic this Saturday. The Noles will take the court against Oklahoma State, who will also have the rest of the week off and come in with a 7-2 record, including a win over ACC member Pittsburgh and a loss in their last game against then sixth ranked Wichita State.

Interesting Fact

The showdown between the Seminoles and Cowboys in Sunrise this coming weekend will be the ninth time the Noles have taken part in the annual two game tournament associated with one of college football’s oldest bowl games.

All-time, FSU basketball has a 7-1 record in the game, losing their first game in 1999 against UMass before winning every game since – including five straight years participating that include wins over Tulsa, UMass, USF, FAU and last year’s victory over Manhattan.
