FSU football has lost one of its most versatile players in Ermon Lane.
FSU football is beginning preparations for its upcoming bowl game against Southern Mississippi, but will be without one of its most versatile players in Ermon Lane.
Lane is a former five-star wide receiver and the No. 24 overall recruit from the class of 2014. He’s found a way to add value to his role as a defensive player after failing to find his niche in Jimbo Fisher’s offense the first two years.
However, when FSU’s lack of wide receiver depth showed up this season, Lane showed he was the ultimate team player and went back to the offensive side of the ball.
Ironically, Lane was able to contribute on offensive and became a big play target for true freshman quarterback James Blackman.
He finished the season with eight receptions for 169 yards (21.1 ypc).
However, it looks like Lane’s career with FSU football is officially over after his tweeted this Friday:
My time at FSU has come to a end ❤️😒 #AllLove

Thoughts
Some five-star rated players coming out of high school feel entitled, and would fade into obscurity if they had not become an impact player by the end of their sophomore year.
That wasn’t the case with Ermon Lane as he reinvented himself twice while at FSU. He may not have had the career numbers wise many thought he’d have as a former five-star recruit, but the comments from all the fans show nothing but respect for a player that brought it when he crossed those hash marks on the field.
To be able to switch positions, in the middle of the season with his first game at safety coming against arch rival Miami was incredible. Not to mention he made plays in that game when Nate Andrews went down with an injury.
Did I mention Lane initiated his move from receiver to safety? A player looking to find a way to use his talents to contribute to the success of his team.

You’re right Ermon, that’s what real men do. Congrats on your FSU career and hopefully you’ll get a shot at the next level.
