FSU football has the schedule, talent and will have the right leadership to lead them to a national crown before the Aggies win their own SEC division.

Over the last 26 seasons, even with a decade where they were finishing below standards set by fans that got used to their winning ways, FSU football was no doubt one of the best teams not just in the state of Florida or the ACC, but in the entire world of college football. At the same time, there is an argument that Texas A&M hasn’t been the second best team in the state of Texas.

This is much more about the recent decision by now former Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher to leave Tallahassee for College Station to become the next head coach of the Aggies. Fisher did what he thought was best for himself and his family – his ex-wife and two kids who likely will also be moving out of the state capital – and no one can be mad about that, just the way it went down.

The fact of the matter is that Texas A&M is a good program and a program that has some tradition, like a national title that was won almost 80 years ago and the one time that Bear Bryant made a bunch of players leave the program by nearly killing them with workouts at a camp when he first took over.

This year’s season of .500 football by the FSU football program under Fisher – wait, scratch that…under .500 football since Fisher left before the final game – is something he will have to get used to at Texas A&M because the Aggies will be watching the Seminoles win a national title before they win the SEC West.

The obvious reason, and I know that those who like to defend us being in the ACC are not going to want to hear this, is that the road is easier for the Seminoles. Next season along, the Noles will host Virginia Tech, Clemson and Florida at home – arguably their three toughest games – while playing Notre Dame and Miami on the road as both will be losing some key weapons and will be down a peg in 2018.

Texas A&M? Well, they have to take on both Clemson and Alabama in the first four games of the season alone along with games against Auburn and LSU. While I don’t think those are great teams, they are better than the Aggies at this point and most FSU football fans will agree that he knows how to coach down.

Right now, the Noles have a group of players who could run around the Aggies and beat them on the field of play. Even with several players leaving like Derrick Nnadi and more than likely Derwin James, the Seminoles have a group of youngsters like Cam Akers, Brian Burns and a returning Deondre Francois who will keep them in the running for a national title.

The Aggies will lose their best player, Christian Kirk, and have a group of players on both sides of the ball who haven’t shown they can even play with teams like Ole Miss and Arkansas much less beat Alabama on a consistent basis followed by even making it to the SEC Championship Game.

That goes more into the final reason – the Seminoles have a program history recently (i.e. when their players and recruits have been alive) of winning. Over that 26-season span from 1992 until this season, FSU has three national titles, 15 ACC crowns and has played for another title.

The Aggies, meanwhile have no national crowns, 3 conference titles (all in the Southwest Conference and Big 12) while losing another title game in 1998 which was the last time they played for anything.

Can Fisher eventually lead the Aggies to an SEC crown and maybe a playoff appearance? Well, with the money is being paid he better and I think it might happen someday. But it wont be until FSU football has added at least one more national title to their trophy case.
