FSU Basketball Weekly Preview: December 4th-10th
By Jason Parker
Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming week of games scheduled for play during the 2017-18 basketball season.
Don’t look now, but there is a team with six wins in Tallahassee that could have an interesting season and make a solid postseason run – as FSU basketball got their first true road win of the season last week and has spent the next six days preparing for a long work week that could go a long way in them getting some national love.
As the non-conference schedule heats up, head coach Leonard Hamilton has watched his young team grow and watched as the Seminoles have won close games, blowouts, offensive shootouts and defensive slugfests that could come in handy once ACC play starts and into what Hamilton and FSU basketball hopes is a deep postseason run and a return to the NCAA Tournament after last season’s second round finish.
Here’s our recap of last week’s action and a preview of this week’s games for the Seminoles.
Last Week Recap
Over their history, the Seminoles haven’t had a whole lot of luck in the annual ACC / Big Ten Challenge having lost 11 of their previous 18 games. That changed this year when the Noles went back and forth early on before pulling away from the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and getting the 78-73 win on Monday.
C.J. Walker led FSU basketball with 24 points on the night, while Phil Cofer added 19 points that included four three pointers. For the game, the Seminoles had struggles from the field as they shot under 45 percent in the game, including around 38 percent from behind the three point line.
Opponent Preview
The three game slate this week starts Monday when the Seminoles head down to Gainesville for a battle with the rival Florida Gators. Through the first part of the season, Mike White’s team has gone 6-1, which included a loss Thanksgiving weekend in the championship game of the Phil Knight Invitational, where they gave up a late lead to Duke.
On Wednesday, the Noles return home for a showdown with the Loyola Greyhounds at 7 p.m. inside the Tucker Center. While the team from Maryland has a record of 1-6, there last three losses have been by a combined 14 points that include an overtime loss in their last game against Mount St. Marys.
Sunday, FSU basketball will be back on the road as they face the Tulane Green Wave inside the Amalie Arena in Tampa. Head coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. has the men from New Orleans coming in to the week with a record of 6-2 after losing Sunday to North Carolina and with a game Wednesday against Southern.

Interesting Fact
This season, the FSU football team made history when they won their fifth straight game over the Gators – the longest streak in program history over their rivals. Well, Hamilton’s team can follow that lead with a win Monday night, as it would be the fourth straight win over Florida which would be the longest streak in program history.
