Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their next week of games during the 2017-18 basketball season.

For the third time this decade, FSU basketball is sitting with a 5-0 record to start the season after sweeping both of their games last week and heading into their light work schedule this coming week. That’s the good news – the bad news is that in each of those previous two seasons, the Seminoles dropped their sixth game of the year.

This week brings the annual event paring teams from two of the top conferences in major college basketball – an event that the Seminoles haven’t always had the best of success in, but look to change all that when they face one of the Big Ten’s newest teams.

Here’s our recap of last week’s action and a preview of this week’s games for the Seminoles.

Last Week Recap

Fresh off a title in an early season tournament in Jamaica, the Seminoles returned home for two games surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday. On Wednesday, the Noles got 21 points from Phil Cofer as FSU basketball got a 98-79 win over Kennesaw State – in a game where the team was without center Christ Koumadje as he deals with a foot injury.

On Friday, Florida State was back on the court inside the Tucker Center as they got 21 points from Terance Mann and Braian Angola – who got all his points off seven three pointers – as the Noles dominated The Citadel 113-78. It wasn’t all pretty as freshman MJ Walker had to be helped off the court with an injury.

Opponent Preview

It’s off to New Jersey this week for the Seminoles as they face Rutgers in the annual ACC / Big Ten Challenge. This season, the Scarlett Knights have an undefeated 6-0 record, including wins at home last weekend over Bryant and East Carolina. Rutgers is averaging just under 74 points a game, with Geo Baker dropping 12.5 PPG and Corey Sanders going for 11.8 PPG.

Interesting Fact

This season will be the 19th time that the annual conference showdown has taken place – and FSU basketball hasn’t always been the biggest fan of the event, in part because they have an all-time 7-11 record since the event kicked off, including a 2-7 record on the road.

Next: FSU Basketball remains unbeaten with win vs. The Citadel

The Seminoles got an eight point win last season at home when they defeated Minnesota, which broke an eight game losing streak in the challenge. The game will also mark just the second time Florida State and Rutgers have met, with the Seminoles getting a 10 point win in their only other meeting back in 1967.
