Jimbo Fisher talks the importance of Delaware State game
By Kelvin Hunt
Jimbo Fisher spoke with media after FSU’s blowout win over Delaware State Saturday afternoon.
Jimbo Fisher opened up the press conference by giving props to Delaware State and then praising the FSU team for playing a complete game by doing well in all three phases of the game.
Fisher was asked if playing a game like this earlier in the year would have been helpful for quarterback James Blackman.
Fisher said, “It would have made a big difference and people don’t understand that..those games are very vital with just the cohesiveness to be able to go out there and do it with the lights on…it’s big to get all the young guys and their energy and let them know they can play in games and all that stuff. It would have helped him.”
I won’t recap the entire video which can be viewed below, but just wanted to touch on this excerpt as it’s directly tied to what I wrote about Jimbo Fisher’s offense not sucking.

Thoughts
Here’s an excerpt I said in that piece:
"So what’s wrong with the offense you ask? He’s playing a true freshman quarterback that didn’t early enroll. A true freshman quarterback that’s not dinking and dunking, but throwing vertically and averaging around 24 passes per game. That inexperience and injuries to Auden Tate, Keith Gavin and Landon Dickerson coupled with playing seven defenses in the top 60 will cause an offense to regress significantly."
James Blackman completed 11 of 15 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns with Auden Tate and Keith Gavin playing in the game.
Jimbo Fisher mentioned [8:10 mark] the importance of having cohesiveness between Blackman and the receivers and how Tate and Gavin haven’t played or practiced much all season. I said the exact same thing in the piece referenced above.
Fisher said, “What a young quarterback needs is consistency, where things don’t change.”
Blackman hasn’t had that all season due to injuries to receivers and the offensive line.
When the kid has time and the game starts to slow down for him he’ll be fine, and all of that comes with good experience.

The ‘Noles will have two more regular season games, and hopefully a bowl game where the team will get 15 additional practices which should be huge in Blackman’s continued development.
