FSU in The NFL: Week 5 Recap of Former Noles
By Jason Parker
Week 5 of the NFL season is in the books. As usual, there were plenty of former FSU Seminoles making plays around the league.
With close to a third of the NFL season in the books, several former FSU stars are making their names known across the league for their impressive play through the first five weeks of the regular season. From Jacksonville to Tampa Bay and points across the country, some Seminole alumni have shined on.
Last week was also the chance for one former FSU starting quarterback to take the lead job for his NFL team – while another played maybe the biggest regular season game in his short NFL career. At the sam point, a duo on defense made their mark in helping their team pull off the monster upset.
Here’s a look at how some of the top former Seminoles did this past weekend across the league.
Telvin Smith and Jalen Ramsey
The two Jacksonville Jaguars were part of maybe one of the best days in franchise history – or, at the very lest, the best day they have had in a long time. Each player got an interception, with Smith taking his to the house, as part of a five turnover day for the Jags in their upset win at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jameis Winston
Down the road from the Jaguars (and a few days before), Winston and the Buccaneers hosted the New England Patriots in what was easily the biggest home game in a long time for Tampa Bay. Winston went for over 300 yards and a touchdown, but the Bucs came up short in losing 19-14 thanks to three missed field goals.
EJ Manuel
Making his first start of the season for the Oakland Raiders in replacing the injured Derek Carr, Manuel didn’t bring his best game and ended up on the losing end of the game against the Baltimore Ravens. It didn’t help that his offensive line left Manuel out to dry, as the former FSU star got sacked four times on the day.

Kelvin Benjamin
After going for over 100 yards the week before in the Carolina Panthers’ upset victory over the Patriots, Benjamin went for just under 60 yards in the victory over the Detroit Lions – but had maybe the two best plays of the day for Carolina in bringing in a 31 yard touchdown pass from Cam Newton and making a third down catch that iced the game with two minutes to go.
