Week 6 has come to an end and no surprise in the polls concerning FSU football. After a heartbreaking 24-20 defeat against Miami, Florida State remains unranked in the polls.

FSU football remains unranked in both the AP and Coaches poll. Miami broke the 7 year win streak FSU held on the Canes yesterday. Putting the ‘Noles record at 1-3 (1-2) on the season.

Florida State is currently in a big hole and it’s going to take some pride to climb out of. The program is not in a good position at the moment and the fan base has lost their patience. FSU has championship expectations every season. 1-3 heading into mid October is certainly not ideal for the ‘Noles.

Ranked ACC teams:

  • No.2 Clemson
  • No.11 Miami
  • No.15 Virginia Tech
  • No.20 NC State

Remaining ranked opponents:

As it stands now, the No.2 ranked Clemson Tigers is the only remaining ranked opponent left on FSU’s schedule.  Assuming that remains the case FSU doesn’t have much chance of climbing back into the top 15 or higher.

The way this 2017 season is trending it’s looking like FSU will finish somewhere between 20 and 25 in the AP and coaches poll.

Thoughts:

Earlier today Kyle Bonagura and David Hale for ESPN posted bowl projections. Hale had FSU playing Tennessee in the Belk Bowl while Bonagura had the ‘Noles playing UCLA in the Hyundai Sun Bowl. While I mean no disrespect to either bowls, Florida State is much better than this. As I said it’s championship or bust. While I understand that can’t be the case every single season, this is largely under-achieving.

If indeed FSU football goes to the Belk Bowl, Hyundai Sun Bowl, or anther alike this will break FSU’s streak of 5 straight appearances in a New Years Six bowl. The streak started in 2012 in the Orange Bowl against Northern Illinois.

At this point all of the Seminoles goals are virtually unattainable. The only realistic goal FSU has left to play for is their consecutive bowl streak (35) which is the longest in the country. Pride is also on the line for this team. In times like these players as well as coaches must step up and show what they are made of. Whether you are undefeated or not, if you’re a Nole you give all have for the spear on the helmet.

Florida State will travel to Durham North Carolina next Saturday to play Duke (4-2). Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN2.
