FSU Football coach Jimbo Fisher held his weekly press conference ahead of their matchup against Wake Forest, also speaking on James Blackman’s debut.

Jimbo Fisher is now tasked with making sure his FSU football team doesn’t let the slow start affect their confidence for the rest of the season. On a more positive note James Blackman showed a lot of promise and proved that he can be productive despite a lack of experiance.

Fisher spoke about how well his young quarterback played. He also talked about his defense and the offenses’ red zone struggles. Here are the highlights:

James Blackman Debut

Fisher had a lot of praise for Blackman. He also said he saw room for improvement and looks forward to his development.

“As far as the passing game, handling the blitz, making decisions where to go with the ball, he was really good in the game,” Fisher said.

“Going to the right guy for the right reasons in the right coverage. He made really good throws and decisions and had some big plays on it.

Slow Starts On Defense

The Seminoles defense played well enough to win but Fisher said he would like to see his defense start faster. North Carolina State scored 10 points on its first two drives of the game.

“We’ve got to start fast,” he said. “And we do it in practice and play. We had them in third-and-long situations and in backed-up situations. One we got a penalty, and one they executed a screen pass and got the first down. Got to get off the field on third down. That was the key.”

Red-Zone Problems

FSU missed out on several opportunities to tie the game or take the lead while in the red zone by not scoring touchdowns.

They had six drives end inside the NC State 20-yard line. They finished the game with four field goals and one touchdown to show for it.

“We had opportunities that were there,” he said.” That’s things that we work on a lot, and we’re going to continue to work on. We’ll get them right.”
