Week 2 of the NFL season is in the books. As usual, there were plenty of former Seminoles making plays around the league.

Last week Florida State football had its second game off due to Hurricane Irma. From a football perspective it’s a blessing in disguise. They get an extra week to get freshman quarterback James Blackman acclimated to the offense.

We didn’t get a chance to see FSU on the field this week – but if you’re an NFL fan, you likely saw a few former Seminoles pop up on your TV screen. One former Nole is the obivious front runner for rookie of the year so far in this young season.

Here’s a look at some of the top performances.

Devonta Freeman

After finding the endzone in the opener against Chicago, the Atlanta Falcons running back did one better in Sunday night’s win over Green Bay, scoring twice in the first half alone to show why he is the highest paid running back in the league.

Dalvin Cook

Rookie running back Dalvin Cook continued to build his case for rookie of the year with a 12 carry 64 yard performance in a 26 – 9 loss to The Pittsburgh Steelers. The Vikings abandoned the run after getting down early in the game but he still managed to average over 5 yards per carry.

Jameis Winston

After a rare week 1 bye week due to Hurricane Irma, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston put up 206 passing yards and a touchdown in their 29 – 7 domination of The Chicago Bears. In Winston’s rookie season with the Bucs he replaced current Bears quarterback Sean Glennon as the starter. Safe to say The Buccaneers made the right decision.

Lamarcus Joyner

Los Angeles Rams defensive back Lamarcus Joyner followed up his huge week 1 performance with a 10 tackle game against Washington. They lost the game but Joyner is continuing to prove himself to everyone who doubted whether or not he could be an impact player in the NFL.

Chris Thompson

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson continues to live up to his reputation for making explosive plays. He carried the ball three times for 77 yards and two touchdowns and also added another 29 yards receiving on 3 catches. Washington picked up a 27 – 20 road win to even up their record at 1 -1.
