On Saturday, FSU Football will play their first game since Labor Day weekend, waiting to bounce back from their 24-7 season opening loss to No. 1 Alabama.

FSU football is back in action this weekend as the Noles get ready to host N.C. State at noon Saturday. Head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke with the media Monday on a number of topics ranging from breaking in a true freshman at quarterback to how he spent his unexpected vacation time.

James Blackman

Early in the press conference Coach Fisher responded to questions on whether freshman James Blackman will be ready for his first collegiate start. “We’ll find out if he’s ready.” Fisher said. “We go good-on-good everyday. We’ve given him every blitz look you can give him.”

One thing for sure, Blackman will not face a better defense all year than the one he faces in practice everyday.

Fisher also answered questions regarding James Blackman’s lack of size.

“How big was Lamar Jackson when he came out? He played at the highest level in Florida in Belle Glade. He’s a competitor and he’s tough. If we didn’t think he had that toughness, we wouldn’t have pursued him.”

On a lighter note, Fisher was asked about how he spent his time away from the game. “I spent time with my kids. We never get to usually, so I took Ethan fishing and watched some game film with Trey. I see enough football. Football can wait.”

Fisher On North Carolina State

North Carolina State has played FSU football tough the last several years. He talked about last year’s game against NC State.

“They won the field position battle. We had long fields to go. Defense played well in the second half. We had some big drives in the second half to win it. They did a great job. They moved the ball.”

He also mentioned the experience NC State has on the front seven. “I’ve watched film on them for the last three or four years and I’ve seen the same guys. It seems like they’ve been there forever. But they play so well together and they are physical.
