FSU Football: Jimbo Fisher continues push for new football facilities
By Jason Parker
FSU football has done a lot in recent years to improve and enhance their facilities for the football team – but the head coach says more is needed.
Since Jimbo Fisher took over as the head coach of the FSU football team before the 2010 season, the school and athletics department has gone out of their way to improve facilities for the program – among other things, constructing an indoor practice and conditioning facility that is among the best in the state and entire country.
At the same time, the team renovated the locker room inside Doak Campbell Stadium and built a brand new players only dorm like the coach asked for. While Fisher is grateful for all the school has done so far, the coach has made it clear that it isn’t enough.
Jimbo has, over the past few years, made it clear that FSU football is going to have to do more to compete with teams both in the state, ACC and across college football in the “arms race” for being able to impress top athletes. During his radio call-in show earlier this week, Fisher made it clear the Seminoles are going to need to dig into their wallets (h/t Tallahassee Democrat):
"“We haven’t done anything for a long time here. We did when we first got here. We made a few little adjustments. Since then we really haven’t. We’ve got to get caught up in that area.”"
For Jimbo, the solution is one thing for FSU football: a football only operations building:
"“We don’t have enough room for offices for our coaches, for additional staff that you’re going to be able to add, for new coaches in all the different player development areas…“Get more academic space for kids to study, tutoring, computers, there’s a ton of areas in the academic world that we’ve got to get caught up in as far as facilities and space.”"
Translation, Florida State fans, is you can expect a lot more letters and flyers in your mailbox if you are a FSU football boosters hitting you up for money in the coming years. With schools like Clemson having building such as this, it’s no surprise that the Seminoles are going to have to play catch up in this area.

There are still plenty of questions when it comes to what Fisher wants (where it will be placed, the total costs, etc.) that FSU football and the athletics department will have to figure out sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, the current state of college football is more about pretty lights and everything else but the product on the field it seems.
