FSU football possibly lost on two fronts Saturday night against Alabama.

FSU football beat itself Saturday night with special team blunders and turnovers. However, it may have suffered a greater loss when starting quarterback Deondre Francois went down with a leg injury late in the game.

The ‘Noles were losing 24-7 with just under six minutes to go in the game when Francois was sacked rolling out of the pocket.

It looked like he landed awkwardly and the Alabama defender may have landed on his leg as well.

He wasn’t able to put any pressure on his left leg, and was assisted off the field before having his leg placed in a brace in the injury tent.

Francois was carted into the tunnel before the game was over with true freshman James Blackman replacing Francois in the lineup.

It’s the worst possible scenario as Blackman has no college experience and weighs about 165 pounds. FSU fans fear the worse when it comes to the injury to Francois and the play can be viewed below:

Thoughts

There’s no question it’s the worst case scenario. Francois is one of the toughest college football players of all time, but him not being able to put weight on his leg is a big deal. For those wondering, I don’t have a problem with Francois being in the game at the time he got hurt.

As we’ve discussed, there’s no quarterback depth.

The ‘Noles luckily have a game they can use as a scrimmage next week against Louisiana-Monroe. It’ll be good experience for James Blackman as the Miami Hurricanes roll into Tallahassee the week after that.

Here’s to hoping there’s no structural damage in Francois’s leg and he’ll be able to return soon.
