Josh Sweat will lead the team in sacks

Josh Sweat was third on the team with seven sacks in 2016, and I expect that number to increase this season. Sweat battled injuries early, but finished the season on a tear with nearly half his sacks coming in the second half of the season.

DeMarcus Walker played at an All-American level and finished with 16 sacks followed by true freshman phenom Brian Burns with 9.5 sacks on the season.

Walker is gone and Burns will likely not be able to surprise teams when on the field like last season, and we’re still not sure he’ll play much more than passing situations even though he has put on good weight.

Sweat is a proven player with the ability to play effectively against the run and the pass, thus he should see more snaps than any defensive end on the team.

That should lead to an increase in sack opportunities for Sweat in his money year with the team.
