Brian Burns was a consensus Freshman All-American in 2016 by several media outlets and looks to build on that play in 2017.

He was second on the team with 9.5 sacks as a true freshman while playing a limited number of snaps.

Burns was used primarily to rush the quarterback in obvious passing situations by the opposing team. However, he’s put on a good amount of weight in the offseason with Vic Viloria in hopes of becoming more effective against the run.

If that’s the case, Burns should be on the field for a considerable amount of snaps on the season which should allow him more opportunities to make impact plays.

He finished the 2016 season with 24 total tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss. That’s the definition of maximizing opportunities to be an impact player.

I expect Burns to go for 10+ sacks in 2017.
