FSU football has one of the most talented secondaries in college football.

FSU football has a history of recruiting talented athletes to play in its secondary, and the same holds true for the 2017 team with Tarvarus McFadden and Derwin James.

Both will likely be selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Derwin James is the swiss army knife of the secondary, but McFadden plays the boundary cornerback position(the more difficult of the two cornerback spots).

McFadden started as redshirt freshman and got off to a rocky start, but improved tremendously as the season went on.

He tied for the national lead with eight interceptions last season, and had the lowest completion percentage allowed in the ACC according to PFF College Football:

Question and Thoughts

The question is how much of an impact with McFadden have on opposing offenses? Will they test him in 2017 knowing his pedigree and what he accomplished last season?

If teams are afraid to test McFadden, Derwin James will be waiting on the other side of the field. If they don’t want to test James, McFadden will be waiting on the other side.

The fact McFadden had so many interceptions while only allowing 43 percent of the passes to be completed against him while leading the team in passes defended (6) can be intimidating.

However, McFadden believes he’s going to be tested according to a statement to FoxSports a couple of weeks ago.

“When people say you’re the top dog, teams want to see if you’re the top dog. We’re going to see,” McFadden said.
