FSU football is loving life right now against the rival Miami Hurricanes – and one writer from the Magic City is reminding fans why that is.

Entering the 2017 season, the rivalry between FSU football and the Miami Hurricanes is about as one sided as it has been over its history – which dates all the way back to the 1951 season. Currently, the Seminoles are riding a seven game winning streak – which is tied for the longest by either team in the series.

While a win for the Noles would be historic in that sense, fans of the Canes might not even realize it – because to hear many of them talk, it’s almost as if the Hurricanes are the ones who have won not just seven straight in the series, but the ACC crown and a couple national titles over the same span.

Many fans of the Hurricanes, when talking about five national titles that were won before the current roster was even born or was learning how to use a toilet, continue to talk about how great they are now – while on their fourth coach in a seven season period, have one bowl win in the last decade and not even an ACC Coastal crown to brag about since joining the conference.

Now, one of the most well known writers in South Florida is breaking the news to fans of what used to be “The U” that FSU football is the better team. Greg Cote of the Miami Herald penned an article this week with the following title – “Sorry, Canes, the Noles are still better”.

Cote was speaking about the recent ESPN football story listing the top 50 players in college football entering this season – with FSU football having five players on the list, including Derwin James at No. 1, while the Hurricanes didn’t have a single player on the list:

"The evidence is anecdotal, not proof — it’s just a list — but it is the latest indication why Florida State was voted to win the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in the preseason media poll and why the Seminoles remain the primary roadblock to the Miami Hurricanes’ return to national prominence."

It’s finally good to see that there are some in Miami-Dade and Broward counties with ties to the Hurricanes that have seen the light – that the Seminoles of Florida State are far and away the best team right now in the state of Florida.

Yes, the Canes have been close the last three seasons and have lost those games by a combined 10 points – but that’s just the point. They have still LOST all of those games. Eventually, they are going to beat FSU football again – it could be this season, it could be five years down the road. But, at this moment right now, there is no question that the best team in the state resides in the panhandle.
