FSU Football: ‘Noles ranked No. 3 in FEI preseason ratings
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football should start the season ranked top 5 or higher. Will they go undefeated?
The expectations for FSU football are even higher this season than compared to 2016 for several reasons.
The ‘Noles return an experienced and talented quarterback, plus the defense should be more talented and deeper than last season.
Also, they will not have to run the gauntlet of potent offenses like they did in the first part of the 2016 schedule.
In fact, quite the opposite, because the ‘Noles will face the No. 1, No. 11 and No. 13 defenses(last year rankings) in the first four games of the 2017 season according to S&P statistics.
The ‘Noles had the No. 2 offense in the nation according to S&P statistics in 2016, but lost All-World Dalvin Cook to the NFL Draft.
So it’ll be interesting to see how things shake out. The ‘Noles best bet is to get through the first four games no worse than (3-1). If they can do that, they’ll have a solid chance of running the table the rest of their schedule.
2017 FEI preseason rankings
The FEI preseason rankings were released Sunday night and the ‘Noles came in at No. 3. The rankings also gave FSU a three percentage chance of going undefeated.
According to the rankings, the ‘Noles are mostly likely going to finish the regular season 10-2 (35.2 percent). There’s a 26.8 percent chance they’ll lose go 9-3, and a 21.5 percent chance they’ll finish the season 11-1.
Thoughts
Since FEI rankings give Alabama a 40 percent chance of going undefeated, it’s safe to say the rankings include that game as one of the losses for FSU.
That means FEI rankings are predicting FSU will lose to one of the following: Miami, NC State, Clemson or Florida.
Aside from Alabama, those are the games that I would put into the games in which FSU could lose category.

We’ve said many times, it’s extremely difficult for any team to go undefeated in the regular season. Teams have to be elite and have great injury luck aside from a couple of calls/plays on the field to go their way.
Do you think FSU had a better shot of going 12-0, 11-1, 10-2 or 9-3 on the season?
