FSU Football: 5 ways offense remains elite in 2017

Improve Third Down Conversions
The ‘Noles were not terrible in this department last season, as we noted in the first slide they were No. 31 in the nation in converting third downs.
They converted third downs 43.79 percent of the time which is the highest percentage since 2014.
For comparison sake, the 2013 FSU offensive unit converted third downs an astounding 52.33 percent of the time.
However, if we look deeper we’ll see that FSU only converted third downs 37.7 percent in ACC conference play last season so that needs to improve quite a bit.
All of these things are linked together, winning on first down, not allowing sacks means the probability of converting thirds downs is higher than not.
Of course when FSU gains a first down on drives, the probability of them scoring a touchdown is higher as we learned in the previous slide.
