FSU football has quite the history of taking on and defeating ranked foes – as it turns out, no other school in the state can touch them.

From bowl games to big regular season contests, FSU football has shown over its history that it knows how to get things done when the big lights are turned on. Last season alone, the Seminoles had four wins alone against ranked teams, all of whom were ranked No. 13 or higher in the polls when Florida State got their wins.

Even with the “lost decade” and a 1-5 record versus ranked opponents during the first two years under Jimbo Fisher, the Noles have been able to get big wins against foes that have a number by their name. As it turns out, of the seven FBS teams in the Sunshine State, the Seminoles are far and away the cream of the crop.

A Reddit user posted stats showing the record of each FBS team against ranked teams both all time and over the last 20 years. Here’s how the Sunshine State pans out:

"Florida State – 114-104-4 all time (.523), 51-34 last 20 years (.600)Miami – 117-150-2 (.439), 37-44 (.457)Florida – 129-173 (.429), 56-54 (.509)USF – 11-25 (.306) for bothUCF – 3-29 (.094), 3-28 (.097)Florida Atlantic – 0-17 for bothFIU – 0-9 for both"

When it comes to the facing top 10 teams within the same spans, the Seminoles are still right at the top:

"Florida State – 52-61-3 all time (.461), 22-23 last 20 years (.489)Miami – 53-72-1 (.425), 15-20 (.429)Florida – 59-95-4 (.386), 29-27 (.518)USF – 3-7 (.300) for bothUCF – 2-15 (.118), 2-14 (.125)Florida Atlantic – 0-6 for bothFIU – 0-3 for both"

You know what they say…the numbers never lie. For FSU football, the numbers show how the Seminoles have been that consistently shows up when it counts.

The Noles will likely get a chance to show that strength plenty of times during the 2017 season. At least five teams on the FSU football schedule (Alabama, Miami, Louisivlle, Clemson and Florida) will start the preseason as ranked foes and should likely stay that way when they play the Seminoles.

Teams such as N.C. State could also sneak into the ranking when the play the ‘Noles – giving Florida State a chance to pad these stats.
