FSU Football: Jimbo Fisher ranked among top FBS coaches for 2017
By Jason Parker
FSU football has had a consistent time under head coach Jimbo Fisher – now, one website is saying there aren’t many sideline generals better than him.
Exactly seven and a half years ago today, FSU football got a new leader for the program when Jimbo Fisher – following the final game of Bobby Bowden’s career with a comeback win over West Virginia in the Gator Bowl – was handed the keys to the whole thing and it became a question of what Fisher would be able to do in his first head coaching job.
By now, fans of the Seminoles have Fisher’s resume memorized for all the great things he has done, titles he has won and big victories over quality opponents and hated rivals. Now, Jimbo is getting more and more national love ahead of the 2017 season.
Athlon Sports ranked all 130 FBS coaches entering the upcoming season, and FSU football’s leader made his way into the top four by being ranked No. 4…and we’ll let them remind us all of the good things Fisher has done:
"Fisher gets the nod as Athlon’s top coach in the ACC, as the West Virginia native enters his eighth season in Tallahassee with a 78-17 record. The Seminoles have won at least 10 games in six of seven years under Fisher and claimed the 2013 national championship. Additionally, Florida State has won the Atlantic Division four times since 2010, made one playoff appearance (2014) and claimed back-to-back New Year’s Six bowl trips (2015-16)."
Yeah, he’s pretty good.
The three coaches ahead of Jimbo Fisher are names that FSU football fans are familiar with. No. 1 was Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who the Seminoles will see in jus two months. No. 2 is current Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer – who Fisher smoked in their only meeting during the 2010 season when the Seminoles smoked Meyer’s Florida Gators 31-7.

No. 3 on the list? Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh – who Fisher also beat in their only meeting during the Orange Bowl six months ago. If the Seminoles do come out on top of the Crimson Tide in the opener and Fisher has wins over all three coaches, there is a legit argument he should move up on the list.
