Punt Returns

  • PRE: Punt Return Efficiency, the scoring value generated per opponent punt.

Technically, this is special teams but this plays a large in role in how successful the offense can be so I’m including it.

The FSU football special teams were terrible in this category. FSU’s Punt Return Efficiency rating was -.31 which was good for No. 127 nationally.

Essentially, the FSU football offered no sort of threat to flip field position or score, averaging 7.41 yard per return.

That’s awful for anyone, but super terrible considering the athletes FSU has on its team.

What’s even worse is in conference play the ‘Noles only averaged 1.6 yards per return.

The days of Greg Reid making spectacular punt returns are surely missed.  Look, it’s hard for offenses to consistently drive 70-80 yards and score.

So any time you can get up hidden yardage with punt returns, the percentages of team scoring will go up significantly.
