Protecting the QB

The FSU football offensive line was great in some areas and down right abysmal in others as we’ve documented.

They were great in short yardage situations, but terrible on passing downs. For instance:

  • Standard Downs (No. 89 nationally)
  • Passing Downs (No. 105 nationally)

As we’ve said, some of the blame can be placed on Deondre Francois being inexperienced and holding the ball too long. However, a great deal of it can be placed on the offensive line too.

FSU quarterbacks were sacked 36 times in 2016 which was ranked No. 108 in the nation. In 2015, FSU quarterbacks were sacked 26 times and 23 times in 2014. So this isn’t a trend that’s positive.

The offensive line has to do better, the quarterback has to process information quicker and tight ends and running backs have to be better with blitz pickups.
