FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher is known as a quarterback guru, sending players to the NFL. One writer seems to think Fisher’s track record is overrated.

The news five-star quarterback Justin Fields decommitted from his Penn State commitment seems to have lit a fire in Twitterland.

FSU football seems to be “all in” on Fields as he has mentioned the ‘Noles in recent interviews.

The Florida Gators are in heavy pursuit of Fields, and Auburn and potentially Georgia could get in the mix.

It would be huge for FSU football to land Fields in this recruiting cycle on two fronts. He’s an incredible talent, and it would keep him away from Florida.

Fisher’s track record with college quarterbacks is undeniable as he has consistently gotten players drafted for over a decade.

FSU coach Dameyune Craig tweeted the following that resulted in a response from a former SEC writer:

Say what bro?

Here are the stat lines for those three players alone their final year in college with Fisher as their coach:

JaMarcus Russell (1st Round Draft Pick, 1st Overall)

Yardage: 3,129

Completion Percentage: 67.8

Y/A: 9.1

TD: 28

INT: 8

Rating: 167

Rohan Davey (4th Round Draft Pick, 117 Overall)

Yardage: 3,347

Completion Percentage: 59.1

Y/A: 9.1

TD: 18

INT: 10

Rating: 146.5

E.J. Manuel (1st Round Draft Pick, 16th Overall)

Yardage: 3,397

Completion Percentage: 68

Y/A: 8.8

TD: 23

INT: 10

Rating: 156.1

Thoughts

I have no idea what Derek Tyson is talking about. Jimbo Fisher’s job is to win college football games, which he has done at an incredible 82.1 percent.

The production listed above is outstanding, often playing against excellent college defenses in two of the most talented conferences in college football.

If Fisher continued to coach players in the NFL and they turned out to be busts that would be one thing. Since that’s not the case, what players do in the NFL has nothing to do with Jimbo Fisher.

What if the offensive coordinator sucks or the team tries to make to the quarterback fit a system instead of making their system fit the quarterback?

Justin Fields is already aware of Fisher’s track record, and knows he can get him there if he chooses FSU.

Another note, all three of the quarterbacks Tyson mentioned may not have been good NFL quarterbacks, but all three of them are multi-millionaires.

That’s what counts at the end of the day.
