FSU football has been the standard barrier for the best state of football in the country – but one website has no respect for Sunshine State teams.

There was once a time where, without question, the best college football in the entire country was played in the state of Florida. For a quarter century, the state’s big three teams – FSU football along with rivals Florida and Miami – were almost always consistent winners and champions.

The Seminoles, ‘Canes and Gators combined over the 26 seasons from 1983 until 2008 to win 10 national titles, 27 out of a possible 62 conference crowns (led by Florida State’s 12 ACC crowns) and just two losing seasons out of 78 total seasons (both by the Hurricanes, just a FYI).

Needless to say, there really shouldn’t be a question what is the best state for college football – as last season the Big Three all won at least nine games and their bowl games while both USF and UCF went bowling as well to prove they are a quality opening act.

However, one website is not showing the state of Florida any love. Bleacher Report ranked the top states for college football. Using last year’s combined records and the number of bowl games made over the last season by a state’s FBS teams, the 41 states with at least one FBS program were ranked.

The state of Florida…the place where champions live…finished No. 19:

"The Sunshine State has three great contenders in FSU, Florida and Miami. In particular, the Seminoles shine through as one of just four teams in the country with at least 10 wins in each of the past four years.Unfortunately, if you’re watching every FBS game in Florida, it also means a lot of Florida International and Florida Atlantic, who have combined for zero bowl games in eight tries. There are only 12 schools in the country that have not played in a bowl game since 2013, and it’s incredible Florida was able to sneak into the top 20 despite having two of them."

So, the top level of talent in the state – with a five team combination that would DOMINATE any other state, including California and Texas – gets punished because of two struggling teams and the fact there are about 5,000 bowl games, which means middle of the road teams in other states can jump ahead by this ranking.

Look at their top 10 list if you don’t believe how crazy this notion is:

"No. 1 Oklahoma (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa)No. 2 South Carolina (Clemson, South Carolina)No. 3 Pennsylvania (Penn State, Temple, Pittsburgh)No. 4 Washington (Washington, Washington State)No. 5 Wisconsin (Wisconsin)No. 6 Utah (Utah, BYU, Utah State)No. 7 Kentucky (Western Kentucky, Louisville, Kentucky)No. 8 Alabama (Alabama, Auburn, Troy, South Alabama, UAB)No. 9 Tennessee (Tennessee, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt)No. 10 Nebraska (Nebraska)"

Nope…no way…not a chance on God’s beautiful earth that ANY of those states could hang with the state of Florida. Yes, you have teams like Clemson and Alabama that are a part of a given state, but not a single one of those states could match their teams with the tops from here, especially with FSU football leading the pack.

With as many as four teams expected to be ranked in the top 25 when the initially rankings come out before the season, the state of Florida will show the rest of the country who runs this sport.
