FSU basketball coach Leonard Hamilton is coming off one of his best regular seasons of all time. Fans react to the contract extension he received Thursday.

FSU basketball has its man according to FSU Athletic Director Stan Wilcox as the ‘Noles announced a contract extension for Leonard Hamilton Thursday:

"Florida State University Vice President and Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox announced today that Florida State has extended the contract with head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton through the 2019-20 season. The Seminoles’ leader in all-time wins, Hamilton’s current agreement was set to expire after the 2018-19 season.“Leonard Hamilton is an outstanding basketball coach.  His success coupled with the type of student-athletes we are currently attracting show we are on the right track,” said Wilcox.  “This extension will provide him the opportunity to reach both of our goals for the program which are annual NCAA Tournament appearances and success advancing in the Tournament.“Coach Hamilton has consistently produced student-athletes we are proud to call alumni of Florida State University, and teams that compete at the highest level both in the ACC and nationally,” said FSU President John Thrasher.  “I am fully supportive of this contract extension and I look forward to working with Coach Hamilton in the coming years.”"

Thoughts

Obviously the initial sentiment is negative because many fans believe Hamilton didn’t meet expectations with this years team. However, Hamilton led the ‘Noles to a third place finish in the toughest conference in the nation and a birth in the NCAA Tournament.

FSU basketball also swept rivals Miami(defeated twice) and Florida.

However, the 2017 season will be a challenge as the ‘Noles will lose a ton of talent to the NBA, and don’t have the same caliber of recruit incoming as what’s leaving.

FSU basketball has four commitments for the 2017 recruiting cycle that’s ranked No. 25 in the nation and No. 6 in the ACC.
